1. Redmi K20 Pro

Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro smartphone was launched in June 2019, but it has one of the best performing chipsets compared to other smartphones including Redmi released in 2020. It comes with FHD+ 6.39-inch display with Snapdragon 855 chipset, Octa core CPU and Adreno 640 GPU. It is available in 6GB RAM with either 64GB or 128GB ROM storage. It comes with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back with aluminum frame, giving it a very premium look and feel.

Unlike other Redmi smartphones it sports Super AMOLED capacitive display FHD+ 1080x2340 resolution. Expect impressive smooth video playbacks of your OTT favorites. Though it ships with Android 9 (Pie) MIUI 11, it has a software upgrade since June 2020 to Android 10 MIUI 12. Redmi K20 Pro comes with triple 48MP+8+13 MP rear cameras with wide, telephoto and ultra-wide lenses, letting you take impressive photos in different light settings. Low light pictures are also quite good, but do not expect a miracle in really low light. Dual-LED flash helps.

Video recording 4k@30 fps, 1080p@30/60/120/240fps and 1080@960fps slow motion recording with gyro-EIS image stabilization work quite well with impressive videos. Front selfie 20 MP with wide is a pop-up lens and quite good for group selfies. Front camera supports video recording at 1080p@30fps without image stabilization.

It comes with the fingerprint sensor under display optical and other sensors (see specs in table below). Dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio recording, dual-band A-GPS and Type-C USB are supported. Unlike other Redmi phones, does come the IR remote support.

Performance wise the Snapdragon 855G chipset and Adreno 640 GPU make it one of the best performing CPUs in this category of smartphones. You can load up with multitasking apps and play videos and games. It is a fantastic experience playing games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 on the K20 Pro.

The large size is quite good for playing games and watching videos. It may be a bit unwieldy for single hand operation though. The 4000 mAh non-removable battery gives a life of 10 hours to 1 day depending upon the usage. To some extent a 27 W fast charger, definitely helps. The smaller battery helps in keeping the weight at 191gm

2. Redmi K20

Xiaomi Redmi K20 is identical to Redmi K20 Pro, the top rated smartphone in this category, except for relatively underpowered chipset and few minor feature differences. In the rest of the review, those differences are pointed out.

Redmi K20 smartphone was launched in May 2019, but it has one of the best performing chipsets (except K20 Pro) compared to other smartphones including Redmi released in 2020. It comes with FHD+ 6.39-inch display with Snapdragon 730 chipset, Octa core CPU and Adreno 618 GPU.

It is available in 6GB RAM with either 64GB or 128GB ROM storage and also 8GB RAM with 256GV ROM. It comes with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back with aluminum frame, giving it a very premium look and feel. One notable missing feature is there is no provision for external SD card insertion. It may not be a big issue as it has ample storage with either 128GB or 256GB ROM versions and can be supplemented with cloud storage.

Like Redmi K20 Pro but unlike other Redmi smartphones it sports Super AMOLED capacitive display FHD+ 1080x2340 resolution. Expect impressive smooth video playbacks of your OTT favorites. Though it ships with Android 9 (Pie) MIUI 11, it has a software upgrade since June 2020 to Android 10 MIUI 12.

Redmi K20 cameras are identical with Redmi K20 Pro. It comes with triple 48MP+8+13 MP rear cameras with wide, telephoto and ultra-wide lenses, letting you take impressive photos in different light settings.

It is identical to K20 Pro with sensors and connectivity.

Performance wise the Snapdragon 730 chipset and Adreno 618 GPU make it one of the best performing CPUs in this category of smartphones. Slightly underpowered compared to K20 Pro. You can load up with multitasking apps and play videos and games. Excellent experience playing games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 on the K20.

The large size is quite good for playing games and watching videos. It may be a bit unwieldy for single hand operation though. Unless you have a sharp eye, you may not see much of a difference. The 4000 mAh non-removable battery gives a life of 10 hours to 1 day depending upon the usage. To some extent 18 W (vs 27W one with K20 Pro) fast charger, definitely helps. The smaller battery helps in keeping the weight at 191gm (same as K20 Pro).

In summary compared to K20 Pro, the K20 has slightly underpowered chipset (but better than others), no external memory card slot, no 60fps at 4K recording and 18W instead of 27W fast charger.

3. Oppo F17 Pro

Oppo F17 Pro released in September 2020 comes with Mediatek Helio P95 chipset, Octa core CPU and PowerVR GM9446 GPU. It is available in 8GB RAM 128 GB ROM only.

With a Super AMOLED 6.43-inch screen at 1080x2400 it is quite impressive. Quite good for all your OTT hires video playbacks and playing games. The Super AMOLED display puts it in competition with other top-rated smartphones in this price band.

The Quad cameras are 48+8+2+2 MP with wide lens, ultrawide and macro lenses are quite okay with getting very good pictures in normal lighting conditions. Low light pictures are not bad. Video recording at 4K@30fps and 1080p@30/120fps with gyro-EIS image stabilization helps in getting good quality videos. Front dual camera 16+2MP wide angle gets you good group selfies and is quite good with video at 1080p@30fps.

It comes with a finger-print sensor under the display similar to the Oppo F17. It includes other standard sensors. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB Type-C ports are supported. See the specifications below for more details.

Performance wise you can do multitasking with multiple browser tabs. Can play popular games like PUBG and Asphalt. The 4015 mAh battery compared to competitors 5000 or 6000mAh may not last long with long video plays or games. It does come with a 30W fast charger, advertised to charge to 100% in 53 minutes, which should help.

This is one of the light weight smartphones in this category at just 164gm. Super AMOLED screen, weight and fast charger make it a tough competitor with other top-rated smartphones.

But EIS for image stabilization would be missed on this smartphone. The front selfie 32MP 23mm wide camera is good with 1080p@30fps recording. Overall the camera performance is quite good in normal lighting conditions. Low light pictures are also good with low light mode option – you would see fewer specks in darker areas.

Vivo v17 comes with under display optical finger print sensor. Supports other standard sensors and for connectivity dual band Wifi, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 2.0 Type-C are supported.
